Gibson A-1 Mandolin (1914)

Good condition. Pumpkin colored carved spruce top, carved maple back and sides, ebony bridge and fingerboard. Two rope rings around the bound sound hole. Bound fingerboard and top. Frets are believed to be all original. Moderate fret wear on lower frets. Original reverse tuners. “The Gibson” inlayed in MOP in ebony overlay headstock. Original tailpiece with “The Gibson” engraved in the cover. Serial No. 20028.

I have had this mandolin for over 40 years. When I got it the top had sunk somewhat. I added a piece of ebony to the bottom of the bridge to raise the action and to spread the pressure from the strings over a larger area. The top has been stable ever since. There is a crack in the back, approximately four inches long. It is tight, although there is no evidence of repair. Although the pick guard is in pieces, as indicated by the photo, it probably can be restored.

Original hard shell case. Lining has mostly faded to light green/gray. Lining on bottom is original blue. Handle missing. Sold as is.

Price was $1,195.00. Now reduced to $995.00.
