Martin C-3 Converted to Flat Top

Martin C-3 conversion to flattop: #55536 (1934).
This is the same model that Matt Umanov did a conversion to a flat top, now owed by David Bromberg. The one I have for sale was converted by Mark Montefusco. His name is written in pencil on the under side of the top. The conversion was done prior to 1970. This guitar is from my personal collection. I have owned the guitar since about 1970.

It is in very good condition, excepted for a hairline crack in the neck near where the wedge was installed to change the neck angle to make it correct for a flattop. (See photos.) The crack is recent. The guitar was not dropped or knocked into anything. I have not repaired the crack but will do so if desired. This gives you the option to have the repair done by a person of your own choice.

The guitar is 14 7/8 inches wide at the lower bout. Neck is 1 ¾” at the nut. This is a long scale, ~ 25 ¼”. (Later in 1934 the C-3 was changed to a short scale, according to www.provide.net) Body depth is 3 ¼” to 4 1/16”. The back has more arch than a flat top and the 3rd and 4th braces are taller. (Also per provide.net and my observations)

Striking book-matched Brazilian rosewood back and sides. The top appears to be Sitka spruce. Top braces are scalloped. Work on the top braces is really nice. Bridge and fingerboard are jet-black ebony. The finish on the body appears to be original. The finish on the neck also appears to be original, except for the area where the wedge was inserted.
Black ABS molded Martin case, circa 1970s, with rust brown lining.
$28,000.00
