George Sandstrom Banjo-Uke (c. 1919) |
||||
| Very good condition c. 1919. A very well made instrument with strikingly beautiful wood (Burled walnut?) for the rim and back. The back appears to have been turned on a lathe. The rim is made of blocks connected by finger joints. It too was probably turned on a lathe. Four lighter colored wood stripes are inlaid in the neck/fingerboard. The neck appears to be maple. It is straight and the action is very nice. Head: 5 5/8”. Rim: 7 1/8” diameter and 1 5/8” deep. Scale: ~13 1/8”. Nut: ~1 9/32”. The sound is bright but surprisingly there a nice sustain. The design for tightening the head is unique. It is shown in the photo of the two steel rings. There is a stamp on one of the metal support brackets: “Pat. Pending” Geo. Sandstrom, Oakland,CA.” Patent No.1354268 was issued to Mr. Sandstrom in 1920.
